• How specific are the requirements?
  

  The more specific, the more a custom solution may answer your needs. This typically occurs when you have a limited number of very diverse measurements such as 1 thermocouple measurement, 1 audio-input, 3 analog outputs to control some actuator and so on.

• How many set-ups do you need?
  

  With increasing quantities, the development cost and the cost of the specific set-up becomes smaller on a unit-basis. Even for small series a custom set-up may even be cheaper than a set-up with standard components!
